Co-op Steam games for a group: keys and gifts
Co-op is the easiest reason to gather friends for an evening: one shared goal and a result you reach together. On a marketplace these games come in two forms — a licensed Steam key you redeem yourself, or a Steam gift a bot sends as a present into your library. How the two differ is covered in our guide on software and games delivered through Steam. Below are twenty-three co-op and party games grouped by type of play, based strictly on the seller listings.
One thing matters for any group: online co-op almost always requires the game on each player’s account. Exceptions are noted — for a few titles the second player joins for free.
Strictly two-player co-op
These games are built for exactly two people — you cannot play them solo.
It Takes Two is an adventure about Cody and May, turned into dolls: per the listing it is played in pairs only, locally or online. It is a Steam gift with the Friend’s Pass — the second player joins for free at the owner’s invitation, so no separate copy is needed.
A Way Out is a co-op prison-break thriller: inmates Leo and Vincent only act as a pair, in split-screen on one couch or online. It is also a gift with the Friend’s Pass: one copy covers both players.
We Were Here Together by Total Mayhem Games is a strictly two-player co-op puzzle adventure: explorers on an Antarctic expedition solve puzzles by talking over radio. Per the listing it is a Steam gift delivered to Russia-region accounts; it has no Friend’s Pass, so each of the two players needs a copy.
Online co-op for up to four
These games fill a full squad, and every member needs a copy — there is no Friend’s Pass.
Deep Rock Galactic is a shooter about a crew of dwarven space miners in the procedural caves of planet Hoxxes; co-op for up to 4 players, with the Bosco drone helping on solo runs. Per the listing it is a Steam gift delivered to accounts in the Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus and CIS regions.
The same game has a second listing — Deep Rock Galactic with bot delivery. Also a gift, from a different seller; the difference is the region set: beyond RU/BY/KZ/UA the options list other countries (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, etc.). Pick the listing that matches your account region.
Helldivers 2 is Arrowhead’s co-op shooter about Super Earth’s divers: squads of up to four take on bugs and automatons. A licensed key; per the listing it activates in Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, Argentina and EU countries except Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, and not in Belarus or other CIS countries. The options are the Standard and Citizen editions.
For other regions Helldivers 2 has separate listings. The Helldivers 2 listing for CIS countries is a key for CIS accounts other than Russia and Belarus, with Standard and Super Citizen editions. The Helldivers 2 Super Citizen listing lets you choose at checkout: Super Citizen for Russian accounts, or the standard and Super Citizen editions for CIS countries excluding Russia. All three differ in activation region and editions, so check your account’s country.
Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is a first-person co-op melee game for four players: the five heroes of Ubersreik fend off hordes of Skaven and the forces of Chaos. A licensed key that activates in Russia, Ukraine and CIS countries, with Russian interface and subtitles. The options are the standard edition and a Collector’s Edition that adds the soundtrack, Helmgart-themed extras and wallpapers.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 by Saber Interactive is a third-person co-op action game: Lieutenant Titus against swarms of Tyranids, with a story campaign and co-op. What to check before paying
- Format: key or gift. A key you redeem yourself; a gift a bot sends to your Steam profile — so you need the exact profile link and an accepted friend request. The mechanics are in software and games from Steam.
- Region. The region is a neutral restriction of the item: the seller delivers only to an account of the country chosen in the option. Match your Steam account country to it; this matters most for Helldivers 2, whose three listings cover different regions.
- Whether each player needs a copy. It Takes Two and A Way Out run from one copy for two via the Friend’s Pass. For the other co-op and party games — Deep Rock Galactic, Helldivers 2, Vermintide 2, Space Marine 2, Sea of Thieves, Overcooked! 2, Lethal Company, We Were Here Together, Among Us, PICO PARK, Tricky Towers, Stick Fight, Witch It, Hand Simulator, Bread & Fred, Super Bunny Man and Paint the Town Red — co-op play needs a copy (or, for Among Us, a key) per player. The exception is Ravenfield: per the listing it is mostly solo battles against bots.
- Edition. For Helldivers 2 (Standard/Citizen/Super Citizen), Vermintide 2 (Standard/Collector’s) and Overcooked! 2 the edition is chosen before payment — verify it against the game’s Steam page and the seller’s terms.
