Steam: profile link, friend invite and account region

A Steam reference for anyone buying games as a gift (Steam Gift) or topping up a wallet: where to get your profile link, how to create a quick invite link, how to check your account country, and what to do if a gift does not arrive. Every section has its own anchor link — copy it from the table of contents and send it straight to the answer someone needs.

In short: what a gift delivery needs

A Steam gift delivery needs three things — none of which involves access to your account:

1. A quick invite link that looks like https://s.team/p/... — how to create one.
2. The region of your Steam account, selected during checkout — how to check it.
3. A public profile while the gift is being delivered — how to check.

Your Steam login and password are never required. Neither the seller nor the delivery bot asks for them: the gift is sent from the outside, to your account, exactly like a gift from a friend. If anyone asks for your password, a Steam Guard code or email access, that is not how this delivery works.

Quick invite link

A quick invite link is a short address that looks like https://s.team/p/xxxx-xxxx. Anyone who opens it is added to your friends list without sending a regular friend request. This is the link the gift delivery page asks for: the bot uses it to friend you and send the game.

Where to get it

In the Steam client or in a browser:

1. Open Friends — your friends list (a top menu item in the client; the Friends section of your profile in a browser).
2. Click Add a Friend.
3. In the invite block choose Invite via quick link (Quick Invite).
4. Click Copy — your clipboard now holds a link that looks like https://s.team/p/....

That link is what you paste into the delivery form or send to the seller in the order chat.

How long the link lasts

A quick invite link is meant for a single use and works for about 30 days, after which it stops working. So:

• create the link right before you order, not in advance;
• if it has already been used by someone, create a new one — Steam lets you do that at any time;
• do not post the same link in several places: only the first person to use it gets through.

When a bot reports that the link is invalid, it is almost always one of these two reasons: it expired, or it was already used.

Steam profile link

You need your profile link less often — usually when a seller or support asks you to confirm which account you mean. For a gift delivery it does not replace the quick invite link: a bot cannot add you as a friend from a profile page.

How to copy it

• In a browser: sign in at steamcommunity.com, hover over your name in the top bar, choose Profile and copy the address from the address bar.
• In the Steam client: click your name in the top bar → Profile, then right-click the page → Copy Page URL.
• On a phone: the simplest route is to open steamcommunity.com in a mobile browser and repeat the steps above.

The link comes in one of two shapes:

• https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198XXXXXXXXX — the default form, with the numeric identifier;
• https://steamcommunity.com/id/nickname — if you have set a custom URL in your profile settings.

Both work equally well: it is the same account.

SteamID64 and friend code

The number inside a /profiles/ link is your SteamID64, the permanent identifier of the account. It does not change when you change your nickname, avatar or custom URL, which is why it identifies an account unambiguously.

Your Friend Code is a short form of the same identifier. You will find it on the Friends → Add a Friend page, and it is convenient to read out loud or paste into a chat. The other person types it into the same Add a Friend window and sends you a request — unlike a quick invite link, a friend code request has to be approved manually. That does not fit automatic delivery, which is why the delivery page asks for the invite link instead.

Steam account region

Region is the single most common mistake when ordering a gift. A gift is bought for a specific region, and Steam will not accept a gift bought for a region other than yours: the order goes to manual review.

How to check your account country

Open Account details: in the client, click your name in the top bar → Account details; in a browser, go to store.steampowered.com/account/. Your store country is shown in the Store & Purchase History block. An indirect hint is the currency the Steam store shows prices in.

You cannot switch the country by hand in settings: Steam changes it itself when you pay with a payment method issued in another country. We do not sell or suggest ways around regional restrictions — here the region is simply a property of your account that the product has to match.

Which region to pick when ordering

Pick the region your account is registered in, not the country you happen to be in:

• if your country is listed as its own option (for example Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukr. UA) — pick exactly that one;
• the “CIS (except RU/BY)” option covers only Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Russia, Ukr. UA and Kazakhstan are not part of that zone — they have their own options;
• if in doubt, check your account country first (how), then choose the option on the product page.

Wallet currency

Wallet currency follows the account country: roubles for Russia, tenge for Kazakhstan, dollars for part of the CIS, euros for the EU. For a wallet top-up this matters as much as the region does for a gift: Steam will not accept funds in a “foreign” currency. You can see the currency in the Steam store prices.

Public profile

While the gift is being delivered your profile has to be public — otherwise the bot cannot friend you and send it. To check: profile → Edit Profile → Privacy Settings → My profile set to Public. You can switch it back once the gift has arrived.

Login name, not nickname

A separate common mix-up applies to wallet top-ups by login. What is needed is your login — the name you sign in to Steam with — not the display name on your profile: the two can differ. A typo in the login means the money lands on someone else’s account, and such a top-up cannot be reversed. Gifts do not need a login at all — only the invite link.

How gift delivery works

Delivery of our Steam gifts is automatic and runs around the clock:

1. Pay for the order after selecting the region of your Steam account.
2. The automatic delivery page opens right after payment.
3. Provide your quick invite link (https://s.team/p/...).
4. The bot friends you and sends the game as a gift — usually within minutes.
5. Accept the gift in Steam — the game stays in your library forever.

No login, password or Steam Guard code is needed at any step.

How to accept a gift

Once the gift is sent, Steam shows a notification in the client and emails the account address. The notification has two buttons — Accept Gift and Decline. After you confirm, the game is added to your library right away.

Details worth knowing:

• do not press Decline if something looks off: message the seller first — a declined gift goes back to the sender and delivery has to start over;
• a gift nobody responds to is declined automatically by Steam after roughly 30 days;
• an accepted gift can no longer be returned — see refunds.

Why Steam may reject a gift

The main reasons all come from Steam’s own rules rather than from the seller:

• The region does not match. Steam blocks gifts between regions with a noticeable price gap — it prevents buying in a “cheap” region for an expensive one. Hence the rule to pick your own account’s region (details).
• The game is already on the account. Steam does not allow gifting a copy of a game the recipient already owns.
• The profile is private — the bot cannot see the account and cannot friend you (how to open it).
• The invite link expired or was already used (how long it lasts).
• A limited account. New accounts that have never had money spent on them lack some of Steam’s social features. If the invite link cannot be created or friend requests do not work, that is usually the reason; Steam lifts the limit itself after a purchase on the account.

What to do if the gift does not arrive

1. Check the notifications in your Steam client and the account email — the gift may already be waiting for confirmation.
2. Make sure your profile is public and the invite link is fresh. If it is not, create a new one and send it to the seller in the order chat.
3. Message the seller on the order page: the order, the region and a new invite link are all it takes to resend.
4. If there is no reply, the platform that processed the payment steps in — the procedure is described in Refunds & disputes.

Gift refunds

Terms for our Steam gifts:

• the gift has already been accepted in Steam — no refund, that is the platform’s own policy;
• the gift was not delivered through the seller’s fault — 100% refund;
• the gift was not delivered through the buyer’s fault (wrong region selected, wrong or expired invite link, private profile) — 80% refund; the 20% withheld is the platform fee.
