Plague Inc: Evolved rolls out World Update 2026

Bazelio editorial

World Update 2026 is a free patch for Plague Inc: Evolved that refreshes the simulation model with new World Bank data and adds the Plague Legacy scenario.

Plague Inc: Evolved has received World Update 2026, a free patch that brings the game’s model of the world back in line with current statistics. The developers rebuilt the core simulation using the latest global data sets from the World Bank, and the change applies across the whole game rather than to a single mode.

That includes the recently added Xenolith disease type, which also runs on the refreshed numbers. In practice, familiar infection strategies may behave differently simply because the underlying country and population parameters have shifted.

What the patch covers

The headline change is the data layer. Plague Inc. has always leaned on real-world country statistics, and the team periodically refreshes it so the in-game map does not drift too far from reality. World Update 2026 is the latest of those passes, applied game-wide.

For players who prefer the original feel, there is a free Plague Legacy scenario. It is available to everyone and rolls the world back to how it stood in 2012 — the year the game first appeared. It doubles as a neat comparison tool: you can see how much both real demographics and in-game balance have moved over the years.

The announcement also notes that Plague Inc. is now 14 years old, with the studio thanking players for the support that made continued updates possible and asking for reviews.

What it means if you are buying

The most practical point first: the update costs nothing. There is no separate DLC purchase or subscription tied to World Update 2026 — owning the base game on Steam is enough, and the client will pull the patch automatically.

If you do not own it yet, the picture is favourable. This is a title still receiving substantive content and balance work 14 years after launch, not just cosmetic touch-ups. Long-term support is a reasonable argument that the purchase stays relevant, and because the older setup is preserved as its own scenario, nothing is simply removed.

On Bazelio the game is listed in Steam formats — for example, Plague Inc: Evolved (Steam Gift). Check the delivery format and region stated in the listing, since that determines how the item is activated on your account. Current pricing and conditions are set by the seller and shown on the product page.

If you want to weigh it against other strategy and simulation titles, browse the PC Games section. Existing owners need to do nothing beyond launching Steam, letting the patch download, and checking how the new data affects their usual tactics — especially in late-game stages, where regional statistics carry the most weight.
