Aseprite: the pixel-art editor as a Steam Gift — how it works

Published: 3 min read

Aseprite is a pixel-art editor: it is used to draw sprites, 2D animation and game graphics. It is a go-to tool for indie developers, pixel artists and anyone making graphics pixel by pixel — from characters to interface icons. The program is distributed through Steam among other channels — and in our catalog it is sold exactly as a Steam Gift: after payment the program arrives as a present on your account and stays in the library like any regular Steam purchase. Let’s look at how this format works and what to check in advance.

Why a gift, and how the delivery works

A gift is not a key. You redeem a key yourself on the site or in the client, while a gift travels from account to account: the seller has to “friend” you on Steam to hand the present over. That is why this offer asks for a profile link after payment, and the whole process is fully automated by a bot.

Aseprite — Steam Gift (Russia region) is delivery of the program as a gift to your Steam library. The flow from the listing:

  1. After payment you provide a link to your Steam profile.
  2. A bot automatically sends you a friend request — you need to accept it.
  3. The bot sends the game as a gift; delivery usually takes about a minute after payment and providing the profile link, and the bot works around the clock.

The format’s advantage is speed: no manual chat, the delivery is automated 24/7. But the gift comes with strict conditions from the listing: it cannot be kept in the inventory or re-gifted to another user — the present goes straight into the library of the profile whose link was provided. If you are buying it as a present, provide the recipient’s profile link.

How a marketplace purchase differs from buying directly in a store is covered separately in the guide on marketplaces versus buying direct.

What to check before paying

  • Steam store region. Per the listing, the gift can only be accepted on Steam accounts with the Russia store region — this is an activation restriction of the item. The country is listed on the store.steampowered.com/account page; check it before paying.
  • Profile link. Yours — or the recipient’s if it is a present: the bot sends the gift to exactly the link provided.
  • Friend request. The gift comes from a bot, so the friend request has to be accepted — delivery does not complete without it.
  • Refund terms. Once activated on an account, the purchase is not refunded; the terms follow the seller’s rules on their page.
  • Buyer reviews on the listing — real delivery-speed experience with this seller.

Bazelio is a storefront: payment is taken by the seller on the payment platform, and the seller handles the gift delivery and support. Other programs and tools live in the Software category.
