Helldivers 2 joins PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium

Bazelio editorial

Sony has added Helldivers 2 to the PlayStation Plus game catalogue for Extra and Premium subscribers as part of the August 2026 update. Essential tier is not included.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed, with no prior build-up, that Helldivers 2 is joining the PlayStation Plus game catalogue today. The co-op shooter is part of the service’s August 2026 update and is available to subscribers on the Extra and Premium tiers. Nothing changes for people on the entry-level Essential plan, which does not include catalogue access.

The addition stands out simply because of the game’s profile. Developed by Arrowhead Studios, Helldivers 2 launched in 2024 and has since sold roughly 20 million copies, according to Eurogamer’s report on the catalogue update. Titles of that size usually take longer to reach subscription libraries, which is why an unannounced drop caught even regular PS Plus watchers off guard.

How catalogue access works

While Helldivers 2 stays in the Extra and Premium catalogue, subscribers on those tiers can download and play it without buying a copy. That is different from monthly games, which stay tied to your account once claimed. Catalogue titles are available only as long as your subscription tier is active and the game itself remains in the line-up — Sony rotates entries out over time, big releases included.

Sony’s announcement names two tiers, Extra and Premium. Essential is not on the list, so anyone on the cheapest plan would need to move up a tier to reach the catalogue. No end date for the game’s stay, no regional caveats and no extra conditions were given beyond that.

One practical note: Helldivers 2 is a squad-based online shooter, so alongside catalogue access you also need online play — that part is included across the paid PS Plus tiers.

What this means if you are buying

If Helldivers 2 has been sitting on your “maybe later” list, this is the low-commitment moment to try it. Instead of buying the game outright, you can start or extend an Extra or Premium subscription and play it from the catalogue. That works especially well if your interest is exploratory: play through it, drop it, or buy the game separately later if it sticks.

Two things to check before you pay. First, the tier: only Extra and Premium unlock the game catalogue, and a wallet top-up card is not a substitute for a subscription. Second, the region: PS Plus codes are tied to a PSN region, and a code bought for one region will not activate on an account registered elsewhere. Confirm your account region first.

On Bazelio, listings differ by region and duration, from short terms up to a year. One example is PlayStation Plus Turkey — 1 to 12 month subscription; other regions and durations are grouped in the Game Subscriptions section. Bazelio is a storefront aggregator: the purchase itself happens with the seller on a partner platform, so check the current price, available terms and activation instructions on the product page. The listing is also where the seller specifies which tier is being sold — the detail that matters most if you are buying for the catalogue rather than just for online play and cloud saves.
