Dead by Daylight adds Survivor chat wheel, trims add-ons

Bazelio editorial

Behaviour Interactive's new Q&A outlines a Survivor chat wheel coming soon and plans to debloat the add-on systems built up over a decade.

Behaviour Interactive held another Dead by Daylight Q&A and flagged two areas of work. The first is communication: Survivors are getting a chat wheel soon, giving squads a fast way to signal each other without typing. The second is housekeeping on systems that piled up across the game’s decade of updates — the studio says it wants to debloat add-ons and make that part of the game easier to read.

Beyond that, the session did not put numbers on anything. There is no dated roadmap and no published list of which add-ons get cut, merged or reworked. What we have is a stated direction rather than a patch note.

What was actually said

A chat wheel is standard kit in team games, and it solves a specific problem in asymmetrical horror. Four Survivors usually spread across the map, random teammates rarely share voice comms, and typing mid-chase is not realistic. A set of quick calls or signals does not replace real coordination, but it cuts down on the moments where the team is simply guessing what everyone else is doing.

Add-ons are the bigger structural topic. Years of releases left the game with a very large pool of items and modifiers for both sides, and a share of them mostly sits there unused — overlapping effects, options nobody picks, effects that are hard to feel in an actual match. “Debloating” points to the studio wanting that pool to be legible again. How aggressive the pass will be, and when it lands in the live game, isn’t clear from what has been shared.

What it means if you’re thinking about buying

This is good news for prospective players, but it isn’t urgent news. Dead by Daylight is a live game, and work on quality-of-life plus clearer core systems generally lowers the barrier for newcomers over time. Treat it as a sign of continued support, not as a countdown — nothing in the Q&A is time-limited.

If you’re new, the sensible order is base game first, character packs and premium currency later. Until you know whether you prefer playing Survivor or Killer, spending on add-on content is guesswork. The base version is available as a Dead by Daylight Steam gift; check the current price and delivery terms in the seller’s listing, since those change.

If you already play and were planning to expand your roster or top up in-game currency, keep in mind that the add-on rework has no published scope yet. Buy based on which characters you actually want to play rather than on how strong a particular item feels right now — that part of the game is explicitly under review.
