Baldur's Gate 3 year three: 500 million mod downloads
Baldur's Gate 3 third-year stats: half a billion mod downloads, 12.3 million Zevlor deaths and players running the game in 9:16 and 1:1.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has passed its third year since launch, and a new batch of statistics has been shared to mark the occasion. The headline number is 500 million mod downloads — user-made content for the game was pulled down half a billion times. That figure says less about a launch spike and more about a game people keep reinstalling, retuning and replaying years later.
The second number is grimmer for one particular character: Zevlor died 12.3 million times. The tiefling players meet early on turns out to be one of the most frequently lost NPCs, and the data makes that plain. There is also a technical curiosity in the report: thousands of players ran Baldur’s Gate 3 at a 9:16 aspect ratio — that is, vertically — while roughly a hundred played at 1:1, a perfect square.
What the numbers actually show
Half a billion mod downloads is the signature of a mature game with an active community. Story-driven RPGs usually quiet down by year three; here the opposite is happening, and community content remains a standalone reason to come back. For a buyer, that means the game is not a single scripted run — there is a whole layer of interface tweaks, cosmetics, class changes and balance adjustments maintained by players themselves.
The Zevlor death count points at something else: how far playthroughs diverge. In Baldur’s Gate 3 an NPC’s fate depends on player decisions, and millions of matching outcomes mean a huge number of people passed through the same story junction — each with their own result. That is exactly why the game holds up on a second run: it rarely repeats the first.
Vertical 9:16 and square 1:1 are a small but telling detail. These are not recommended presets, just a side effect of people launching the game on unusual setups, from rotated monitors to odd builds. Nothing in those figures promises official support for such ratios — only that such sessions exist and made it into the report.
What it means if you plan to buy
If you are only now considering Baldur’s Gate 3, these stats argue that the purchase is not a one-weekend affair. The game is still current, mods are widely used, and branching outcomes give you a reason for more than one run. Mods, though, deserve a separate check: how you install them depends on the build and platform, and that is not something a key seller is responsible for.
A practical note on buying: decide on the format first. Listings differ — a Steam gift added to your own account, offline activation on a shared account, or a short rental just to try the game. The format determines account rights, whether third-party add-ons are realistic, and whether the game stays with you permanently. For a copy in your own library there is Baldur’s Gate 3 — Steam gift; check the current price and terms on the product page, since they are set by the seller and change over time.
Before checkout, confirm the region, any account requirements and the delivery method, then compare nearby listings for the same game — they often differ more in conditions than in price. Other RPG and service options are grouped in the PC Games section.
